0.27.2010– Osage, IA — Fox River, maker of the famous Original Rockford Red Heel® monkey sock, has founded Socks that Care, a foundation to help direct charitable contributions and proceeds from their annual sock sale, one of the largest in the country. The new non-profit foundation will better aid Fox River in its many charitable activities and should help consumers with tax advantages for contributions.
Becky Lessard, Vice President of Administration/Finance and one of the owners of Fox River Mills, Inc is spearheading the Socks that Care Foundation. “We’ve established the Foundation to be able to more efficiently direct our charitable contributions and sock sale proceeds. It not only helps us better account for donations, it will allow others who participate in some of our programs to receive tax advantages,” said Lessard. “Socks that Care is aimed to do just that, help show how Fox River, as a brand and as a company, cares,” she added.
Socks that Care will direct funds for all of Fox River’s charitable contributions starting with its annual sock sale that takes place November 5–7 this year. The annual event draws thousands of people from across the Midwest and sells over 100,000 pairs of socks. In recent years, the company has partnered with the Osage Rotary who managed the event and received the proceeds from the sale. “We wanted to help more people is what it came down to,” said Lessard. “By setting up the Foundation we were able to bring in and support not only the Rotary with the sale, but also the Osage Kiwanis and Osage Lions Club,” she added.
Fox River’s Annual Sock Sale will take place on the Mitchell County Fairgrounds at the Cedar River Complex for three days — Friday, November 5th from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday from Noon to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Generous savings can be found at the sale on many of Fox River’s hundreds of sock styles. Sale prices range from $1.00 to $3.00 per pair for socks that normally sell for $5.99 to $19.99 per pair. Fox River will also have sock monkeys and crafting supplies on sale for the crafting enthusiast on your list.
“Kiwanis is excited to be part of Fox River Annual Benefit Sock Sale. It's our first year and we're looking forward to helping out and seeing members of the community," said Craig Eisenman, President of Osage Kiwanis. "The proceeds will help us support more of our programs directed to youth activities and organizations including little league ball programs and youth-oriented facilities, like the new Cedar River Complex.”
Fox River’s Socks that Care Foundation will also direct funds for other charitable efforts from their popular Women’s and Military Lines. A portion of proceeds from every pair of their 36 women’s styles is donated to support breast cancer awareness and research. “It’s a key program for us. It’s something the line was designed to do,” said Lessard. “Fox River was the first sock manufacturer to create a specific women’s fit and is the only manufacturer to donate a percentage from every women’s style, not just one or two,” she added.
