Osage, Iowa — February 14, 2011 — Deployed US soldiers all over the globe will be without their loved ones this Valentine’s Day. But you can comfort a soldier and show you appreciate their sacrifice. Comfort is a word most soldiers don’t experience a lot during deployment, especially when it comes to their feet. Running, training and being on their feet all day, makes their socks and footwear a critical part of keeping them comfortable. Fox River Mills, maker of premium performance military, outdoor and sport-specific socks, operates a program called FoxSox for Soldiers to help soldiers receive quality socks from family, friends and the public through Wish Lists posted on their website at www.foxsox4soldiers.com.
“I’ve been wearing your socks for a couple of years now, and they’re the best boot socks I’ve worn,” said Todd Youtzy, 3rd Platoon, A Battery, 1-7 Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade, First Infantry, US Army. “With eight years in the military and three combat tours, I’ve found that a well-made, comfortable and clean pair of socks can have a surprising impact on a soldier’s morale. Thanks for the FoxSox for Soldiers program.”
The program has helped thousands of soldiers since it began in 2008, shipping over 8,400 pair of socks. But the need is still great with over 300,000 US soldiers deployed overseas in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2010 over 4,400 pair of socks were shipped and more than 3,300 soldiers and 6,300 pair of socks are on current lists for 2011.
“The program started as a response to soldiers’ requests for Fox River military socks sent directly to the Mill,” said Karla Smith, Program Coordinator. “Some soldiers didn’t have access to them in a retail store or PX store, but wrote in. Eventually, this employee movement of buying and shipping socks with personal notes of appreciation grew into the FoxSox for Soldiers program. Now, the whole company is involved. We provide the resources to administer the program and cover shipping costs to any deployed soldier with an APO/FPO address.”
In an effort to give back to these deployed soldiers, Fox River is offering a 15% discount on all military socks purchased during February from www.foxsox.com and will still ship them for free to any APO/FPO location. This discount allows family, friends and the public to help more soldiers for less. Plus, you can include your own personal note of support or a valentine.
“We hope you’ll help us support these soldiers abroad now and throughout the year,” says Smith. “To many of us, it’s just a pair of socks. But to a soldier, it can make all the difference in the world to feel a little more comfortable and know that someone who they don’t even know appreciates their efforts. After all, that’s what they’re fighting for, all of us.”
